We understand that importing a foreign car seems like a daunting task. Due to the general lack of information and uncertainty of purchasing and registering vehicles from the other-side of the world, we try to make the process as simple and transparent as possible. After personally going through this process numerous times myself, I know that nothing is more frustrating than working with a foreign company that is completely ignorant or non responsive to the importation process and concerns / questions of the customer. Below you will find our “standard” packages. Due to fluctuations in the vehicle market these prices are only broad estimates of what to expect.

Step 1: Consultation

Reach out to us on our contact page or send an email to admin@uazamerica.com with what type of vehicle and price range you are interested in. We use sites such as myauto.ge, Facebook marketplace and also our local contacts in order to find the best fit for the price for what you are looking for. After we settle on a vehicle you are interested in, our team personally examines the vehicle to ensure that it is a viable option and worth purchasing. We do ask that the customer pay a $500 down payment during this process as it helps pay for the time of our team, as well as travel expenses (many of these vehicles are located in remote villages that take some difficulty to get to.

Step 2: Purchase Process

After signing a purchase agreement for the vehicle, the customer will then pay for the vehicle and we will proceed to purchase and register the vehicle. The vehicle will be purchased as UAZ America and the proper registration and Bill of Sale from UAZ America to the buyer will be mailed after completion of the registration process. We will also add a small charge for the vehicle registration process, as we do have to pay for registration fees and often the entire process may take a day or more depending on the location of the vehicle.

Step 3: Maintenance / tuning / spare parts

After going through this process numerous times personally, I STRONGLY recommend to have your vehicle inspected BEFORE being exported. Nothing is more frustrating than paying top dollar and waiting a full month for parts to get something simple like brakes fixed for a fraction of the price and time from the export country. If desired we can also arrange other mechanical requests: new clutch, oil change, axles, etc. While we personally do not do any work on the vehicle, we can work as a mediator with local garages in order to get your vehicle in proper working condition before exportation. We can also purchase spare parts on behalf of the customer and have them shipped with the vehicle. I also strongly recommend to do this as while spare parts are not impossible to come by in the west they are definitely more difficult to obtain and much more expensive then they are in the post Soviet countries.

Step 4: Shipping / Transport

Probably the trickiest step of the process. Thankfully we have strong connections with locals that have extensive experience shipping within Georgia, as well as the United States. This means that the vehicle can get picked up in Tbilisi, Georgia (A land-locked city) dropped off at the port in Poti, Georgia, delivered to any major port in North America, and then picked up and delivered straight to your door. In simple terms this means that we offer full door to door shipping for a very reasonable rate. Due to the size of the port in Georgia we are only able to offer container shipping, not the more affordable Ro-Ro. We often recommend that customers wait to ship their cars together in order to save on shipping costs. One of the biggest pros of container shipping is that the vehicle is safer in a container and also has the option of being shipped with spare parts. We will put you in direct contact with the shipping company so you can rest ensured knowing exactly where in the process your vehicle is.

Step 5: Registration

The most exciting step! Between email and mail you should have received all documents required for registration. Thankfully the Georgian export certificate includes all information necessary to register your vehicle, including signatures, Bill of Sale, and proof of ownership all within a single document. All Georgian documents are bilingual in English meaning that a translation into English in not required. Upon reception into customs you should have filled out your DOT HS-7 form and EPA form 3520-1 as well as some sort of customs clearance form and Bill of Lading. Using these forms* (in most states) you should be able to legally register your vehicle within your state of residence.

Step 6: Enjoy!

You now are the owner of one of the most exotic coolest cars in the neighborhood without breaking the bank. Congratulations!
